Future Fit 3v3 pitch size and setup

Cones, small goals and a size 3 ball — the format is designed to be quick to set up.

What size is a 3v3 pitch?

England Football's guidance allows roughly 10m × 15m up to 15m × 20m. The exact size is flexible: a slightly bigger pitch gives players more space to dribble, a smaller one creates more contact with the ball. Choose what suits the space and the children in front of you.

Goals and ball

Goals are around 120cm × 75cm (about 4ft × 2.5ft). The ball is a size 3, inflated fairly softly at around 5 PSI so it is comfortable for young players to control.

Marking out the pitches

Permanent markings are not needed. Cones or flat markers are enough, which means clubs can set up on whatever grass they already have. England Football's own example shows as many as four 3v3 areas fitting inside a single typical 5v5 playing area, so far more children can play at once.

How we set up at Grayshott

We run six numbered 3v3 pitches side by side. Six matches take place at the same time and teams rotate around the pitches through six rounds of eight minutes, with a two-minute changeover between rounds.
